February Cloud Of The Month
February 28, 2009

Dear Mr. Schultz:

I wanted to send you a note to tell you that your Number ONE fan lives in my home.  Her name is Sarah and she is 16 years old.

Let me take a few moments to describe Sarah to you…

Sarah is a lovely young lady with many challenges that have faced her all her
life.  She has many medical and disability issues, but always a bright smile
and love for God that shines through.

But as a MARK SCHULTZ fan, you could not ask for anyone better!  One of the things that has really helped Sarah is hearing you sing your songs.  For our youth worship this year she sang “Remember Me” and everyone in our
church was touched by the words in your song.  When Sarah has to go to the
hospital, she always makes sure that we take the Mark Schultz DVD.  This is
such an encouragement to her.  Lately, she has really connected with the song “He Will Carry Me”.

In 2007, we attended your concert in Joplin, MO as you were on your bicycle tour to raise money for orphans and widows, AND we attended your concert on Sarah’s birthday July 14, in Leawood, KS.  I thought it was so cool that your concert was on her birthday!

Presently, Sarah has been home from school since Christmas break with a new medical challenge.  Sarah has an increased amount of white blood cells in her stomach (eosinophils) and it is causing gastritis.  This means that she is allergic to something that she’s eating and for now Sarah is required to be
fed a formula by g-tube 24 hours a day.  She will be out of school for the
month of February or until the gastritis is under control by the medication.

One thing that Sarah wants to do more than anything is to meet MARK SCHULTZ!  I received an email that you are offering Golden Tickets to meet you at a concert. I have purchased the gift pack with the hopes that we would receive the Golden Tickets.  I hope the Golden Tickets are in the gift pack!!

We live in Topeka, Kansas (Fellow Kansan!)  and would be so happy to hear from you, and if possible for Sarah to meet you.  She is able to travel to a concert and should be off the feeding tube in about a month.

I have attached a picture of Sarah for you to see her smiling face!

Thanks for your consideration of making Sarah’s dream come true.

Happy New Year!!
December 31, 2011

Expecting a wonderful New Year!

Well, this was the last somewhat quiet Christmas season Kate and I will have for awhile. We are excited for another stocking to hang on the fireplace mantle next year.

We are expecting our first child on Valentines Day!!  Kate is doing all the work, but she is loving it, and is as glowing and beautiful as I have ever seen her. I would have never guessed that she would be this happy with just 6 weeks to go but she has done really well. I am so proud of her!

I am pretty sure that I am not ready for this new adventure as it took me 45 minutes to “successfully” put the new baby seat in the car. But I am hopeful that what I don’t have in experience God will give me abundantly in extra grace.

Right now I am busy working on my new studio record, and can’t wait to share this music with you on the next tour.  I am excited to play new songs that will no doubt be inspired by the new little person in our lives!

We are really looking forward to this New Year with all the joy that it brings, and we wish the best for all of you in 2012.

I can’t wait to see you on an upcoming tour!

Happy new year
Mark Schultz

Streetdate – “Letters From War” – Watch Mark Schultz Perform Live, Songs From “Renaissance”
November 9, 2011

American musicians have a long and proud history of supporting members of the US Armed Forces. From Bob Hope‘s tours with the U.S.O. to last year’s VH1 Divas concert with Heart and Grace Potter, stars of all stripes have pitched in to bring cheer to our soldiers stationed around the world. But few artists can claim to have touched the lives of our soldiers and their families as directly as Mark Schultz. His song “Letters From War,” now a book by the same name, is a gripping story of lives lost and heroes made. Schultz performed the song recently at Street Date‘s studios, along with material from his new album Renaissance, and the performance is a must-see.

September Cloud of The Month
October 10, 2011

My brother is six years older than me so, naturally, he’s my hero. He had a rough childhood and often felt unworthy of many great things in life. When he was twenty-four he decided to join the Marines. He was incredibly excited and finally felt he had a purpose and a career in life he and others could be proud of. Five weeks into boot camp he became extremely ill. The doctor’s had no idea what was going on with him and put him into a drug induced coma. My parent’s flew out to see him immediately. My mom was able to stay behind with him but my dad had to come back home and work. “He’s My Son”, by Mark Schultz, helped my family to overcome. While listening to these lyrics I can’t help but become emotional as I think back to my mom staying behind and being in the hospital with him. My parents were told that, Will, my brother wouldn’t make it. Because of the coma they weren’t sure if he was going to wake up and if he did what kind of challenges he would face. Day by day and prayer by prayer my mom would update our family and friends of the progress he made. Things like: “he opened his eye for thirty seconds today” were milestones. I will never forget reading “he lifted his hand off the table…he wiggled his fingers…he sat up in bed….he was able to eat today…he’s beginning to talk…” updates that filled our family with joy each day.My dad, through this whole ordeal, was in a rough place. Every time I read the lyrics I can see my parent’s pleading to the Almighty One on behalf of my brother that he could just live. My brother had to relearn how to move his arms, his eyes, his mouth, vocal chords, fingers, legs, etc. He went through therapy for many months and although he still has struggles to this day, four years later, he’s alive and we are here to spread the power of God’s shown to my family from the countless people that prayed for Will and the miracle of his life. Will is now attending college because he now knows that he can achieve anything with the power and love of God behind him. My brother, my hero. ~ Kylie

August Cloud of The Month
September 18, 2011

I love so many songs by Mark Schultz. I grew up listening to and singing along with him. I’ve even done several songs of his for special music at church. Singing is a huge passion of mine and Mark Shultz’s songs are right in my range. I went to a fine arts academy during my high school years, and for my senior showcase in 2006 I decided to surprise my mom. I told her I was singing a song from a musical, and borrowed some sheet music and practiced it while she was around. I even had them put the name of that song in the program. But when I got up there I explained that I wanted to surprise her and sang “When You Come Home.” The few parts where Mark sings “son” I just substituted “hun.” It was a really special moment, and it let her know how much she meant to me.

My mom was my best friend. Even during my “rebellious” stages as a teenager (which were rather mild, looking back on it) I still told her everything. At the end of the day I would always go into my parents room, lie down next to her on my Dad’s side of the bed, and tell her all about my day. She was so supportive of all my dreams, but kept me grounded at the same time. She was my rock. My mom died unexpectedly a little over a year after I sang to her that night. She had non-Hodgkins lymphoma that went undiagnosed until her death in October 2007. She was only 48. Those last few weeks before she passed were horrible…she was so sick, but we didn’t know why. We had absolutely no clue that she was dying until the day of her death.

“When You Come Home” was the first song we played at the funeral, to let people know that it was time to be seated. I stood at the very back of the room, waiting to be seated with my family when the service began. Tears streamed down my face. I am SO glad I took that opportunity to let my mom know how much I love her while she was still here. I miss her so much…it has been three years since that awful, awful time. Our lives are moving on…my youngest sister graduated, my oldest sister has had two children, and I have gotten married. Every time I hear “When You Come Home,” it is so bittersweet. It reminds me so much of my wonderful mother. I cherish it so much. Thank you, Mark. Little did I know when I fell in love with that song that it would speak so close to my heart.
