August Cloud of The Month Winner!September 2, 2009 8:39 pm Leave your thoughts
I would like to nominate my daughter, Rebekah Faith Netherton for Cloud of the Month. Bekah is 8 years old and absolutely loves Mark and his music. She has been to see him in concert three times and she is always wanting to know, “When can we go see Mark again!” I first started listening to Mark’s music about 4 years ago, so Bekah was 4 years old. I fell in love with his music and had all of his CD’s. Since Mark was all that I listened to in the car, Bekah got alot of “” in the car too. I started noticing that she was singing along to his songs and she was making song requests. It was All Mark, All the Time in the car! She and I love praising God and singing along with Mark.
When she was around 5 years old, she wanted to sing one of Mark’s songs at our church. The song she chose to sing as “He’s My Son”. Since she was so young and I was afraid she wouldn’t really be able to follow an accompaniment CD, we did a “duet” with Mark. She sang along with him just like she did in the car and let me tell you there wasn’t a dry eye in the place. She got up there in front of our church family, unaffraid or intimidated, and she sang her little heart out! She has since sung numerous times at church and every time she sings “with Mark”. The all time greatest song that she sang was “Everything To Me”. This song is extra special to us because, like Mark, Bekah is adopted too. She knows that God made her especially to be a part of our family. The day that she sang “EverythingTo Me” at church we dedicated the song to her birth mother (Jessica) whom we are so thankful for. We are blessed that we have been able to stay in touch with Jessica and her family and that she (Jessica) is able to see and know that she made the right decision in giving Bekah to our family. Thank you, Mark, for writing “Everything To Me”. It has helped Bekah to be even more proud of the fact that she is adopted.
Mark came to our hometown, Greensburg, IN a few months ago for a concert and of course, we got tickets and went. Bekah was so excited to see him again. She kept asking me, “Mommy, you need to call Mark and tell him that I want to sing with him. I know the words to his songs”. So innocent that she thought I could just pick up the phone and call him. She, of course, was disappointed when I had to explain to her that #1, I couldn’t just call him and that #2, Mark probably didn’t need any help singing on stage.
At the Greensburg concert, Mark asked the audiance to raise their hand if they were adopted. Of course, Bekah proudly raised her hand. Then Mark said that if we were children of God then we too were adopted, adopted into the Kingdom. Bekah then looks at me and says, “Mommy, I am extra special because I’ve been adopted TWICE.” So true, she is extra special.
Bekah and I also earnestly followed Mark’s Ride Across America. We checked his video blog nearly every day to see what he was up to and where he was at. I explained to Bekah that Mark wasn’t just riding for the fun of it but that he had a purpose. And his purpose was to help children who didn’t yet have a forever family like she did.
Listening to Mark’s music together has opened up lots of opportunities for Bekah and I to discuss spiritual things. I KNOW that Mark’s music has helped Bekah to become the kind, caring & compassionate young lady that she is today. So, while I am nominating Bekah for Cloud of the Month, I guess what I’m really trying to say is, “Thank you Mark, for blessing us with your music. You have such a powerful gifting and your songs touch the souls of people”! In our house, Mark Schultz R-O-C-K-S!
We got Mark’s new “Come Alive” CD in the mail last week and already Bekah is memorizing the songs. Her favorite one is “He Is”. She wants me to play it over and over and I am all too happy to oblige.
